The City of West Torrens revitalised intranet

We’re very proud to have been involved in the revitalisation of the City of West Torrens intranet. Well done to Dale and the team who recently launched Compass to their staff.

The goals for the new Compass intranet were about replacing end-of-life technology, meeting modern intranet standards, having up-to-date content and aligning with organisational vision and values.

Leveraging core features of SeamlessCMS, such as easy content editing and predictive search, Compass provides a personalised, social and interactive intranet that is connected with business systems and processes.

Feature rich staff directory

Staff at City of West Torrens can now find each other easily with clear photos, role details, search and filtering options. The directory is now integrated with IT and HR processes such as induction for new starters.

Personalised and prioritised staff news

To cut through the noise of email and ensure staff are seeing the most relevant information, news feed items are tailored to each department, and priority news is highlighted. Priority news items are displayed in a system tray pop-up, replacing all staff emails. Anyone at council can share news on the home page, further reducing email and establishing Compass as a hub of information.

Paper-based forms moved online

Compass is now home to a number of previously paper-based forms, reducing paper use and streamlining processes. One of their most popular forms, Bank RDO (for rescheduling rostered days off) is now a part of Compass. Staff can apply electronically, see what stage the approval is at, and managers can approve online.

Document management integration

The City of West Torrens uses ECM Dataworks for document control and management. ECM is tightly integrated with the new Compass intranet via search and through dynamic document lists. A significant improvement on what was previously a multi-step process, staff now have confidence that information is relevant and up-to-date.

This is just scratching the surface of the new functionality which Compass provides to City of West Torrens staff.

Chris James, Manager of Information Services at the City of West Torrens sees Compass as a platform they can continue to build on “We are using Compass to deliver internal online services and workflow resulting in improvements in efficiency and productivity by replacing paper-based work practices with online services.”
